If you study city governments in Northern West Virginia, you will soon know why Metro-Government is a bad idea for this area. Take the two largest in Harrison County, Clarksburg and Bridgeport. Clarksburg is constantly making news for the constant in fighting that occurs in council meetings. How many study reports have they paid for only to lose more population. Bridgeport on the other hand has money in the bank . It is growing. No one in council has threatened to throw a punch in a council meeting. Bridgeport has one of the top two Libraries in the Country. Its Park system is superb and getting even better. Two complete opposites just 7 miles apart. No Metro!
dadt, dadt, dadt, I’m glad I caught you in time to provide you with some mentoring.
Do not believe every headline from the C’burg paper. Go to some meetings and see for yourself.
You can feel superior but with a bit of reflection it might occur to you that you have nothing to do with the success or failure of B’port or C’burg governments efforts to improve. You are just someone who stands by and roots as if democracy is a team sport. Show up at a B’port council meeting and question why they go into executive session almost every meeting?
Here’s a fact – Clarksburg has not paid for any “study reports” in recent years. No one in Clarksburg has threatened to “throw a punch”. If you think otherwise, cite your source.
In this whole wide country you claim that Bridgeport has one of the “top two Libraries”. Would you please document that?
Metro government has nothing to do with what you are describing as the differences between the county seat and a historically newer community growing up out of farmland. Check the difference in census data for social, economic, and educational facts. There is no land to expand in Clarksburg to build new houses. If you want one you have to leave the city. The population is much older in Clarksburg.
You should feel lucky to live in a wealthier, better educated community. But before your nose gets too far up in the air, please ask yourself if your living there actually made any difference or if your existence is just parasitic to the efforts put out by others.
Developer….I find no need to apologize . I lived in Clarksburg for thirty years and have now lived in Bridgeport for the same amount of time. I have been to city council meetings in both cities and I still stand by my original comments.
