Developer....I find no need to apologize . I lived in Clarksburg for thirty years and have now lived in Bridgeport for the same amount of time. I have been to city council meetings in both cities and I still stand by my original comments.

dadt, dadt, dadt, I'm glad I caught you in time to provide you with some mentoring.

Do not believe every headline from the C'burg paper. Go to some meetings and see for yourself.

You can feel superior but with a bit of reflection it might occur to you that you have nothing to do with the success or failure of B'port or C'burg governments efforts to improve. You are just someone who stands by and roots as if democracy is a team sport. Show up at a B'port council meeting and question why they go into executive session almost every meeting?

Here's a fact - Clarksburg has not paid for any "study reports" in recent years. No one in Clarksburg has threatened to "throw a punch". If you think otherwise, cite your source.

In this whole wide country you claim that Bridgeport has one of the "top two Libraries". Would you please document that?

Metro government has nothing to do with what you are describing as the differences between the county seat and a historically newer community growing up out of farmland. Check the difference in census data for social, economic, and educational facts. There is no land to expand in Clarksburg to build new houses. If you want one you have to leave the city. The population is much older in Clarksburg.

You should feel lucky to live in a wealthier, better educated community. But before your nose gets too far up in the air, please ask yourself if your living there actually made any difference or if your existence is just parasitic to the efforts put out by others.

dadt - yes, you are 40 years out of date. Go sit at East Pointe - WalMart, Kohls, many other places including the restaurants - your 60 year old eyes will see plenty of woman. And yes, All that shopping is in the City of Clarksburg and they pay more B & O tax there then if they were in the smaller buildings down town.

Go to down town Bridgeport and sit on the funeral home wall that your tax dollars paid for and count the woman walking by. You'll stay lonely there too.

Major retailers do not go to down town areas in rural America.

Check your History Channel again for pictures of WW II bombed out cities ... after one property owner was forced to get out of the way so the city could clean up his lot there are no remnants of what you describe.

It is the property owner who has to decide what risk he wishes to make with his property - not a Clarksburg or Bridgeport City government.

If you study city governments in Northern West Virginia, you will soon know why Metro-Government is a bad idea for this area. Take the two largest in Harrison County, Clarksburg and Bridgeport. Clarksburg is constantly making news for the constant in fighting that occurs in council meetings. How many study reports have they paid for only to lose more population. Bridgeport on the other hand has money in the bank . It is growing. No one in council has threatened to throw a punch in a council meeting. Bridgeport has one of the top two Libraries in the Country. Its Park system is superb and getting even better. Two complete opposites just 7 miles apart. No Metro!

It pains me to drive downtown Clarksburg at noon and look at all the empty buildings. When I attended WI High school some 4 decades, we used to sit on the Courthouse Wall and watch the bevy of beautiful women that came out on their lunch breaks to do some shopping. Now at noon you are lucky to see more than three people on all of Main Street. There is very little shopping left because even with the White Elephant Parking Garages there are few places to park that are close enough for seniors or others with health problems to walk to the business they are going to. Much of downtown looks like the pictures of Europe at the end of WWII.

Government can not create business but it can sure stifle it. West Virginia has not brought its Tax Structure upon to what was needed for the 1970's let alone for the 21st century. Our infrastructure lags behind the national average. Our one Party Political System stifles open discussion of the states problems. By returning the same old tired faces to our legislature, how can we get any better results. We don't get out of the box thinking that way. We need to throw out the rascals who have kept West Virginia at the bottom of most national statistics and get some new faces in government. We need to wean ourselves off coal and expand our energy base.

Let me tell you, I have been in the court room on business, and I personally think Drew was extremely fair. I filled in as a judge a few times after I went to law school, and trust me, It changes your perspective. He has never spoken offensively to anyone. It may sound like it when you are in court or you have talked to someone that was in court, but trust. He wouldn't let anything slip from his mouth that is truly offensive. When you're in court, you're only happy if the judge rules in favor of you. So naturally, if you lose you are unhappy, and the other way if you win. However, sometimes WINNING involves coming back to court, where other results may unfold, making that person unhappy. Probably 30% of people who go to any judge are happy. The other 70% will be a mix of the good people ("He/she was fair, did a good job, etc.) and the ungrateful people ("He/she should go to hell, is extremely disrespectful, does a horrible job, should lose elections, etc.) In all respect, people should actually learn something true about the courts before they say something. Its logic.

No, that isn't the worst thing. I just don't have time to keep listing the problems. For instance, CP just came to inject insulation between the condos, because the upstairs owners can hear the downstairs owners talking, and the downstairs owners can hear the upstairs owners peeing.

Yeah life's a bear and we dopes who bought into all the state, county, city and CP sales pitches get to suffer, simply because we have more than "most" as you say? I won't bore you with all of our "poor me" stories about welfare, housing, job, food and family woes. Some of us were lucky to overcome, and some of us never forget to give back. I don't know why I overcame. Ask God.

Let me just ask you that if it's ok to screw those who don't fit into your "most" category, isn't it certainly ok to screw the others, no matter what category? I don't think organizations care.

I got tired of fighting the "ruling elite" as Joe Sixpack called them. I decided to burn my chances of reselling someday, just to have a voice. And yes, I think I'm still getting double taxed.

I hope someday you get to whatever mark you think others not in your "most" category have gotten to, and I hope your attainment is lasting. Mostly, I hope you can pee without the guy downstairs hearing you.
